Platforms to Find Entry-Level Data Science Roles

As an AI/ML Engineer and mentor, I talk to hundreds of learners every month, and I hear the same frustration again and again. You spend months learning Python, SQL, and machine learning, build a strong portfolio, and then start looking for jobs. You check LinkedIn, spot a good opening, and see that 800 people have already applied in just two hours. It feels discouraging. If you only use mainstream platforms to find entry-level Data Science roles, you are making things harder for yourself. The odds are not in your favor.

In this article, I’ll share some of the best platforms where companies are hiring entry-level Data Science, Machine Learning, and AI talent, and how you can use them to get your first job.

Platforms to Find Entry-Level Data Science Roles

1. Wellfound

If I had to recommend one place to my mentees, it would be Wellfound. This platform is made for startups.

Wellfound is valuable because big companies usually look for a long list of credentials, but startups want people who can solve problems. Early-stage companies are often more open to hiring entry-level candidates if you can show you know how to build and deploy models.

The best thing about Wellfound is that you often apply directly to the founder, CTO, or Lead Engineer. You can skip the generic cover letter. Instead, check out the startup’s product, find a data problem they might have, and write a short, direct note explaining how your skills and a project from your portfolio can help them.

2. Y Combinator

Y Combinator is the top startup accelerator in the world. They have a special job board for their portfolio companies, and it’s a great place for tech talent.

YC companies are valuable to job seekers because they have good funding, move quickly, and work on new technology. Since they are growing fast, they often need junior data talent to help set up data systems, build first ML models, or analyze user data.

Make a strong profile on the YC platform. Show off your GitHub and any projects you’ve built from start to finish. Startups here move quickly, so if your profile clearly shows you can do data cleaning, basic model building, and deployment, you have a good chance of getting an interview.

3. Otta

Otta has quickly become one of my favorite platforms for tech jobs. It’s a carefully curated job board that removes old corporate roles and focuses on modern, fast-growing tech companies.

Otta is helpful because it shows salary ranges, company funding stages, and tech stacks right away. Its matching algorithm is very accurate, so you spend less time on irrelevant postings and more time applying to jobs that fit you.

Be sure to fill out your preferences carefully. When you find a match, check the required tech stack. If they want Python, pandas, and AWS, make sure your resume clearly shows your experience with those tools before you apply.

Final Thoughts on the Journey

Getting into data science is tough. As an AI/ML Engineer, I know that moving from learning to landing your first job is the hardest part of your career. It takes patience, resilience, and a willingness to try new approaches.

Don’t let the noise on big job boards make you think there are no jobs out there. Companies are hiring every day; they just use platforms where it’s easier to find the right people.

I hope you found this article helpful for finding entry-level Data Science jobs.
